Alisson reveals the ‘young’ player who is being added to the Liverpool leadership group

Liverpool are lucky enough to be able to call on some modern footballing greats within their playing squad.

The Reds have achieved a lot in recent years, and it’s no surprise when you look at some of the names that have emerged. Liverpool have seen a lot of changes over the past two seasons, but a group of top players have supported them throughout. Captain Virgil van Dijk is arguably one of the best defenders of all time, while Alisson Becker could end his career as a goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has been at the club for 20 years and Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool legend and one of the best wingers in Premier League history. Along with legendary left-back Andy Robertson, the quartet form Liverpool’s “management team”, a group of players who handle all matters in the dressing room. And according to Alisson, they have now added a new name to the gang. Alexis Mac Allister arrives at Liverpool

Ultimately,

these five players are really the most important players left who played most of Jurgen Klopp’s legendary time at Anfield.

Obviously Joe Gomez is still around, but the 27-year-old is a quiet figure, a regular in and out of the team under Klopp. Simply put, these are the great players in Liverpool’s history. Or at least in the modern era. But as things stand, 3 out of 5 players will leave the team by the end of the season. Let’s hope that changes between now and May, but it’s clear Liverpool need to at least think about who they’ll be watching

Both the captain and vice-captain need to be replaced, and according to Alisson, the Red Devils could bring in a “younger” player to replace them. “I am 100 per cent committed to this club,” the goalkeeper told BBC Sport. “And I think it’s about how you are part of this leadership team. “Me, Virgil, Robbo, Trent, Mo, Maka [Alexis Mac Allister] are now also carrying my experience. He is young but he has achieved a lot,” added Alisson. “That brings him to the level of a good leader.”

Alexis Mac Allister could be Liverpool’s future captain

It highlights the absurd situation Liverpool find themselves in with contracts that see the captain and vice-captain leave with nothing next summer. Of course, this is not entirely new territory for Liverpool. Jordan Henderson and James Milner will both leave in 2023, leaving a void for Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold to fill. However,

if the same thing happens again, it will be unclear who will replace the pair. Given his authority, Alisson seems a natural choice to lead the team, while Robertson would likely make a decent deputy. But in our opinion, Alisson has just proven that Mac Allister can be someone to watch. The Argentine is a professional player and seems to have settled in perfectly at Liverpool. If he stays for a long time, we think we can look for a future leader for the club.
