What I am told’: Fabrizio Romano’s morning update is good news for Liverpool fans

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Virgil van Dijk is not understood to be negotiating with another club over a potential Liverpool exit next year.

The 33-year-old is fully focused on the Red Devils and working with Jurgen Klopp’s successor Arne Slot, who joined after the German’s nine-year spell ended in the summer. “Now nothing will be decided, nothing will be completed, nothing will be renewed. So give them time to discuss all these important topics,” the CaughtOffside columnist told Daily Brief. “As far as I know,

Van Dijk will not be negotiating with any other club, because he is fully focused on Liverpool, fully focused on doing something special with the new Red Devils manager and the new management team. And then, over the next few weeks and months, his agent will be in talks with Liverpool to try and resolve his future.”

The Dutchman is said to be involved in negotiations with the club, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, to resolve their expiring contracts (which expire in 2025). With the possible exception of Trent Alexander-Arnold, the responsibility for not signing any of the three players whose contracts expire under a new set of terms will fall to our recruitment team. Let’s be clear that this does not mean that such a decision would not have valid objective reasons. However, you can understand why Liverpool fans would be upset to see one of these three players leave on a free transfer next year. However,

we must accept that both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have made it clear they are keen to discuss extending their stays at Anfield. Our view #66 on this matter may be controversial, especially in light of the potential interest from Real Madrid, although previous comments at least suggest an openness to discussing the issue.
