Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is ‘happy’ at Anfield. That comes amid the re-emergence of transfer links from the Saudi Pro League ahead of the summer.
Mohamed Salah expressed his happiness at Liverpool despite the return of transfer links to the Saudi Professional League in recent weeks. The 31-year-old Egypt international was linked with a move to Al-Ittihad last summer and is expected to be targeted again by Middle Eastern clubs after the 2023/24 season.
Salah, who enters the final year of his contract with Liverpool this summer, will once again become a “major target” for the Saudi Professional League’s spending powers. According to HITC, FSG’s new director of football, Michael Edwards, is also prepared to handle a transfer for this player, with the Etihad being the most likely destination. The report claims that Liverpool have prepared for this possibility,
with a number of substitutes lined up before Salah’s departure. These options include Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto, Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, and The Athletic Club’s Neco Williams. However, any news of an official approach to Salah from the Middle East was provided by journalist Fabrizio Romano after he confirmed that there was no “imminent offer” and reiterated that Salah is happy at Liverpool.
He said in his last article for CaughtOffiside: “I know that there are still rumors about Saudi clubs coming to play with the Egyptian national team.”
“But despite some speculation to the contrary, I am not aware of any imminent proposals and have been told that nothing will generally happen now or in April. Saudi interest in Salah remains strong, but now is not the time to make proposals, nor even talk, from what I’ve been told.
Other than that, he is very happy at Liverpool and very professional, so there have been no problems at all, not even in the last few days. If that happens as he approaches his 32nd birthday, his Premier League performances are likely to decline, and with his current contract expiring in 2025, this summer could mark the last time Liverpool are able to collect a significant transfer fee for the legendary striker.
It remains to be seen whether the club moves in another direction. However, with the team about to enter a new era under his successor Jurgen Klopp, now may be the time to rejuvenate the squad on all fronts. However, Salah is still a key player and there are still some records to break at Anfield.
It certainly seems too early for him to consider what retirement from the Championship would actually mean and a new contract with Liverpool should not be ruled out, especially as the player remains ‘happy’ at the club.
