‘I’m not going to lie’… Michail Antonio admits one Liverpool player really annoys him sometimes

Michail Antonio admits there’s one thing that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk does which really annoys him during games.

Just imagine that Virgil van Dijk annoys many attacking players in the English Premier League because of his excellent defense.

The Liverpool defender is considered by many to be the best centre-back in world football and he has certainly returned to his best this season. His latest performance has earned him further praise after facing the threat of Manchester City star Erling Haaland in the 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Although Michail Antonio admitted that he did not watch the match, he captured some notable moments and spoke about Van Dijk’s 1-on-1 match with Haaland in the second half. Antonio admitted that Van Dijk made him uncomfortable

Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio spoke about Van Dijk’s unique habit of turning his back when strikers run at him.

The West Ham striker claimed that the Dutchman did this to him several times and admitted that it made him uncomfortable. The Hammer star said: “But I saw some highlights when Haaland tried to stop him and there was a period when he was running towards him, and the one thing I like about Virgil is that most defenders step back and run towards him. One side to try.” .

“Virgil actually turns his back to you, just like he has his back to you, and he looks at you and says ‘Okay, if you go left, I’ll go left.’ If you do a good job, I’ll do a good job too.

“It’s just waiting for you to hit the ball, so it’s already moving, so you don’t need to create force to get to you. It’s already there. Most of the guards want to see you. Like I know I’m as fast and strong as you, stop it! Whatever stage you are in, I am there.

“It’s disrespectful to be looked at like that,” Fulham’s Tom Cairney said. “It’s very disrespectful.”

Antonio added: He did that to me several times. “He chased me away, I’m not going to lie!”

It’s interesting to hear Antonio admit that facing Van Dijk was very uncomfortable. But it’s certainly not surprising. Van Dijk is undoubtedly one of the best 1v1 defenders in world football, and it is rare for him to turn his back on attackers.

But it worked perfectly for the Dutchman and he was rarely surprised thanks to his amazing speed and quick reflexes.
